What is ETC of PWD for?

The purpose of this charity is the relief of poverty of persons with disability in Northern Uganda. This will be done by providing or assisting in the provision of education, training, psycho-social support, business support and grants designed to enable individuals to achieve sustainable and self-supporting livelihoods.

Who will benefit?

Beneficiaries will be those people with disability:

  1. Who require training to develop the skills to become employed or self-employed.
  2. Who have set up small businesses/become self-employed but require further support to become economically sustainable and resilient

Programmes

ETC of PWD will work in Northern Uganda, predominantly in Gulu and surrounding districts, by developing projects, typically of 6-9 months duration, delivering training, mentoring, psycho-social support and business support to individuals and groups.

ETC of PWD will design/develop project plans based on the experience and evaluations of similar projects and the pilot project that has now completed.

The projects developed follow the sequence outlined below:

Gulu Disabled Persons Union

The organisation that delivered the pilot project was Gulu Disabled Persons Union (GDPU). This is a Uganda registered charity and is the Gulu District organisation recognised by the local government as the advocate for persons with disability in the area. GDPU has continued to work on phase two and three of the ETC project by delivering or assisting in the provision of education, training, psycho-social support, business support and grants designed to enable individuals to achieve sustainable and self-supporting livelihoods.
